Use this report to see how net revenue becomes CM1, CM2, and CM3 after costs. Screenshots use demo data.
1. Open the report and read the margin bridge
Open Profit Dashboard from the sidebar.
Choose the date range at the top.
Read Margin bridge from Net Revenue down to CM3. The adjacent Net Revenue breakdown shows the cost categories and remaining CM3.
CM1 subtracts product costs from net revenue. CM2 also subtracts shipping costs and payment fees. CM3 also subtracts marketing costs (ad spend). The report ends at CM3; it is not profit after overhead such as salaries or rent. For the definitions, read What are CM1, CM2, and CM3?.
2. Read the profit and loss table
Scroll below the charts.
Start with Gross Revenue, Returns, Taxes, and Net Revenue.
Follow the cost lines and subtotals down to CM3.
Product costs may be labeled COGS or Product Costs. Payment processing costs may be labeled Transaction Costs or Payment Fees. Shipping Costs is what you pay for shipping, not the amount charged to customers. Marketing Costs is ad spend.
3. Show or hide percentage shares
Use Show percentages above the table to show or hide the percentages in brackets.
Read Returns as a share of gross revenue. The other bracketed percentages use net revenue as their base.
The toggle changes the display, not the underlying amounts. Gross Revenue and Net Revenue do not have bracketed shares.
4. Add a comparison column
Open No comparison at the top of the page.
Choose a preset such as Previous period, then click Update.
Read the extra vs column beside the selected period. It shows the comparison amount and the percentage change in the amount.
Bracketed percentages show a share of revenue. The colored change badge shows a change between periods, so these are different measures. Decreases in product, shipping, payment, or marketing costs are shown as favorable. To remove the comparison, open the comparison picker, choose None, then click Update.
If the profit looks wrong, check your cost setup before interpreting the result.
